Uposatha Day: A Sacred Observance
Uposatha Day is a sacred Buddhist observance day that follows the lunar calendar, occurring on the full moon, new moon, and quarter moon days each month. This special day serves as a time for spiritual renewal and deepened practice for both monastics and lay practitioners.
Almsgiving (Dana)
The day begins with the offering of alms to the monastic community. This meritorious act of generosity provides essential support to the Sangha while allowing lay devotees to cultivate wholesome qualities of selflessness and compassion. Food offerings are traditionally made in the early morning, followed by other requisites that monks may need for their practice.
Taking Precepts
